You're not an HR person, but HR keeps landing on your desk.

TendHR works with Australian businesses that have grown past the point where people issues sort themselves out, but aren't big enough for a full-time HR manager.

Usually that's an owner, a general manager or the ops or office manager who inherited HR along with everything else.

Trades, healthcare, professional services, retail, hospitality, community services: the industry matters less than the situation. If you've got a performance problem you've been avoiding, contracts you're not confident in or a nagging feeling that something isn't right, that's the work.

Know what to do. Do it right. Have it in writing.

Work out what's actually going on.

The first thing people tell me is usually the symptom. So I start by working out what you're really dealing with.

Get a clear recommendation.

I'll tell you what I'd do, why and what to watch for.

Leave with the paperwork that backs it up.

Letters, records, documents. So that if it's ever tested, by an employee, a lawyer or the Fair Work Commission, the process is reliable.

About Emily

I've worked in HR for seventeen years, across operational HR, consulting and senior People and Culture leadership in public and community sector organisations. Most of my career has been in award-covered, people-heavy organisations, which means employee relations, industrial relations, awards, enterprise agreements and the kind of employment matters that keep business owners awake.

I started TendHR because the businesses that most need good HR advice are usually the ones least able to justify a full-time HR manager, and the options available to them are either expensive law firms or generic template libraries.

I hold a Bachelor of Human Resources and a Graduate Certificate in HR. I'm a member of the Australian Human Resources Institute.

I work with a small number of clients at a time, alongside a senior HR role. That means I'm current, and it means I'm honest with you about capacity before we start.

I'm not a lawyer. Where something needs legal advice, I'll say so clearly and help you get to the right person.

Portrait of the founder
